It's been claimed that they quietly snuck the fine back in after the outcry died down [Link, Tweet1, Tweet2] but the $2,500 fine for "prohibited activities" was never removed. We have Gab, Parler, and now GETTR as alternative social media platforms to Twitter. It's critical that users frustrated with censorship on Twitter support one or just as few alternative platforms as possible as the userbase of any one will not be big enough to matter.
The shooting has been badly spun as a right-wing extremist mass murdering innocent protesters in a pre-planned attack. This is nonsense. We have clear video of the incident. The shooter was chased down by a mob and assaulted before opening fire on them. One of his pursuers was armed himself. And all this after two nights of mass arson and looting.
Kyle Rittenhouse's actions are seen as self-defense by many people, and Facebook is going to censor all debate while accepting the most extreme left-wing interpretation of his actions — whatever gray area there is in Rittenhouse's actions, it's outright false to present him as having been an active shooter, in the midst of a premeditated mass murder terrorist attack, like they have. Social media censorship has been a longstanding problem but this case looks to be a major escalation in that it's one of the first real propaganda coups it will help to pull off.
